    All new staff within Cwm Taf Social Care Workforce who have completed their A&B Modules as part of the social care induction.

    Aims

    For all NEW staff working in a caring environment where a risk assessment has been completed and clearly demonstrates that people handling task can’t be avoided but risk reduced to lowest levels through information, training, instruction, support and equipment

    Objectives

    This course covers the remaining client handling modules of the passport (CDF). In brief all candidates must attend the risk assessed modules passport required to ensures safe & competent practise within their area of work

    C= Chairs:

    • Sit to stand transfers through various levels of dependency
    • Repositioning in the chair
    • Safe use of small handling aid when supporting clients using chair
    • Safe use of slide sheets during management of service user in a chair
    • Safe use of banana boards to transfer in chairs
    • Safe use of variety of stand aid (ross return, etac, samhall turner)
    • Loler and good practice checks prior to use of lifting and lowering equipment
    • Safe use of Active and Passive hoists
    • Safe sling placement and removal in chairs or transferring
    • Safe use of wheelchairs including pushing and pulling and use of brakes and footplates

    D=beds:

    • Safe use of small handling for independent bed management
    • Safe management of service users whilst in bed (divan &profiling)
    • Safe use of small handling aids during bed managements
    • Safe use Sliding various sheets in bed and bed management systems (wendy lett, positional wedges etc.)
    • Slide gloves
    • Supporting service user with various levels of dependency to transfer into and from bed
    • Safe use of passive and active hoisting transfers from bed 

    F=Hoist safe use of active and passive hoists.

    • Safe application of a range of slings. (Toileting & full and specialist)
    • Repositioning hoist (pushing and pulling)
    • Loler and good practise checks

    Hoisting off the floor E = Lateral transfers, are covered where appropriate throughout the aforementioned modules. However specialist supine lateral transfer would be discussed, demonstrated and practiced in client specific handling workshops when required)
