Aims and Objectives
To address some of the key learning points of
domestic abuse and safeguarding highlighted in recent domestic homicide
reviews.
The desired
learning objective is to raise mental health practitioners' awareness and
understanding of:
• professional curiosity and unconscious bias
• holistic perspectives and individual inputs and experiences; ensuring the full family dynamic is considered and the voice of each carer/family member is heard.
• ensuring information/assessments/concerns are shared appropriately to ensure all are aware of thresholds and concerns when deterioration in mental health occurs.
• recognition of the many different forms and facets of domestic abuse, and specifically coercion and control in family relationships
• the concept of when a person is 'at risk' and the related safeguarding expectations (for both children and adults at risk)
• the need to have additional considerations of Duty to report, Safeguarding, Ask & Act, DASH risk and MARAC
• the pathways in to MARAC, how information is shared/analysed to identify the risks posed to an individual
• capacity, DPA and GDR; capacity as a non-binary consideration
