• Aims & Objectives

This course is accessible to all managers, deputies and senior staff working in residential and nursing care homes for older people in the Cwm Taf region.

    Aims and Objectives

The workshops are in two blocks.  Invited participants commit to attend all sessions.  Participants identify a leadership project at the end of part one.   They then undertake the project in the workplace and report back about progress in part two.  Please be aware that on day two participants are invited to bring three objects that hold personal significance for their lives and to discuss them.

The following themes will be explored and developed throughout the training:

    • comparing models of dementia care
    • recognising how far progress has been made
    • identifying blocks to achievement
    • measuring oneself
    • applying Kitwood’s ideas to oneself
    • grasping how life history defines each of us
    • realising how emotional memory works
    • seeing the parallels in trying to be person centered in oneself the difficulties in its implementation in services
    • selecting a project to work on
    • feeding back progress on the project
    • knowing what person centered dementia care looks, sounds and feels like

If you are interested in learning about this model of care, please contact Sarah Williams in the first instance to make an expression of interest.
