REDEPLOYMENT RELOCATION

Can an acceptance of an offer of employment be conditional on a relocation request being granted?

A relocation application should be discussed and if possible submitted, as soon as an offer of employment has been made and before the post is formally accepted.

Can expenses be claimed for moving or storing furniture and belongings?

In order to claim removal expenses, two separate estimates of costs must first be submitted to the Director of Human Resources.

If the application is successful and you are buying and selling a house, you can apply for disturbance allowance and a maximum payment identified in the Relocation Scheme in respect of all aspects of relocation, including removal and storage may be applicable.

If your application is successful and you are buying a house only, you can apply for disturbance allowance and a payment subject to a maximum identified in the Relocation Scheme in respect of all aspects of relocation including removal and storage may be applicable.

If your application is successful and you choose to rent a property, full reimbursement of costs incurred in the removal of furniture and household goods including reasonable insurance and full reimbursement of the cost of storage for a maximum period of 6 months may be applicable.

Does the Council have a scheme to pay relocation costs for new appointees who relocate to live nearer their job in Rhondda Cynon Taf?

Yes, the Council has a Relocation Scheme that operates at the discretion of the Chief Executive in consultation with the Director of Human Resources. New appointees may make an application, providing they meet the relevant criteria.

How can an application be made under the Relocation Scheme?

In order to be considered for reimbursement under this scheme, you need to complete the Scheme for Relocation Application Form and attach to it all relevant receipts and estimates. This should be submitted to the Director of Human Resources via the Human Resources Officer dealing with the appointment process.

Is the relocation scheme applicable to all posts across the Council?

Any new appointee who meets the eligibility criteria in the Relocation Scheme is able to apply. Approval is at the discretion of the Chief Executive.

What are the provisions of the relocation scheme?

A new appointee, who at the time of appointment is living outside a radius of 30 miles of their fixed centre would be eligible for either a lodging allowance up to a weekly sum identified in the Relocation Scheme for a period not exceeding 6 months; or reimbursement of travelling expenses by the cheapest method up to the maximum weekly lodging allowance for a period not exceeding 6 months.

To qualify for consideration, resettlement must be completed within 12 months of the appointment date.

Who is eligible to apply under the relocation scheme?

Under the Relocation Scheme a newly appointed employee, who, when appointed, is resident outside the geographic boundary of Rhondda Cynon Taf, and intends to move to within Rhondda Cynon Taf to take up the post will be eligible.

If an allowance is granted, there would be an expectation that the employee would undertake to remain in the service of the Council for a minimum of two years from the date of appointment. Should they resign prior to this two-year period then they would be expected to reimburse the Council 1/24th of the total amount advanced in respect of each calendar month not completed at the date of termination.
