INDUCTION AND PROBATION |
---|
When will the induction period end?
After the employees first week, the mandatory section of the Induction Checklist should be completed. The manager should meet with the new employee to evaluate the induction process and ensure that the employee has dated each box on the checklist and has no additional questions or queries that need to be addressed. This section should then be sent to Human Resources in Ty Elai to be added to the employees' records.
The same process should be undertaken with the Additional Guidance section of the Induction Checklist, and this finalises the completion of the Induction Checklist. The signed Additional Guidance section should also be sent to Human Resources within the first month of employment.
Why do employees have to serve a probationary period?
It is a key element in induction. All new employees in the Council are contractually required to serve a probationary period.
The main purpose of a probationary period is to ensure an individual's capability, reliability and suitability for permanent employment. The Council believes that the use of probationary periods increases the likelihood that new employees will perform effectively in their new employment.
