LEAVE OF ABSENCE

In what circumstances is an employee eligible to apply for emergency leave?

Emergency Leave is to help people with a caring responsibility for a dependant who may have an unexpected or sudden problem in order to make longer term arrangements.

A dependant would be classed as a child, parent or partner. The scheme does not cover minor illness or injury as leave/TOIL/unpaid leave would need to be used in these cases.

Emergency leave could cover a sudden breakdown in care or a serious illness, and is only granted for a maximum of 1 day as per the Leave of Absence Policy.

The Council's Leave of Absence Policy can be accessed here.
