FLEXI TIME

If I work 3 hours on any given day and use flexi for the remainder of my working hours, does this count towards my maximum one day compensatory leave for that settlement period?

No, If employees only work 3 hours in a day and take the rest off, then this wouldn’t be classed as a half day flexi (staff do not have to work the 3 hours in one block).

The half day flexi only applies when an employee takes half day annual leave and does not then come into work.

Is there a limit to the number of times I can work 3 hours in a day and take the remainder as flexi during any one settlement period?

No, the limit only applies to the number of times you can book half day leave and take the remainder as flexi.  In agreement your line manager, and dependent on the number of compensatory hours you have accrued, there is no limit on the use flexitime to reduce your working hours on any day.

What can be claimed for an emergency dental appointment that falls late morning while someone is at work?

If flexi is in use the employee should sign out when they leave work and sign back in upon their return.

If the employee does not work on flexi time, they should talk to their manager, it may be possible to change the time of their lunch break.

What happens if I have to see a doctor, dentist, or optician, or if I have a hospital appointment?

You should take routine appointments in your own time as set out in the Flexi-time Working Hours Policy.

As core times have been abolished (when you have to be present at work) you will have more flexibility to make appointments. You should always check with your manager that it is convenient before confirming an appointment.

For hospital appointments that are booked by the hospital and you cannot change, you will be allowed time off to attend and reasonable travelling time during working hours, but you need to provide your manager with an appointment card/letter and agree how long you will be away from the office.

What is the maximum number of compensatory days off that can be taken in a settlement period?

A maximum of 1 day may be taken.  This may be taken as 1 full day or a maximum of 2 occasions when taken in addition to annual leave.  Anything extra would exceed the compensatory limit.
