When can an employee start taking annual leave?

Leave can be taken from day one of employment if agreed beforehand with the line manager.  However, leave entitlement does not start to accrue until one full month of service has been completed and is calculated in accordance with NJC terms and conditions.

Any leave taken over an employee's entitlement will be recovered from their final salary.

Will any remaining leave be paid if an employee resigns from the Council?

No, the manager will inform the employee of any remaining annual leave which should be taken before the last day of employment.

Any leave already taken over the entitlement to the date of leaving will have to be repaid upon termination. An example calculation can be found here.

Would a night worker be entitled to the night shift before a training course off?

The training course would be classed as working hours. The manager needs to ensure the employee will have 11 hours rest period between shifts and should amend the rota accordingly.
