Aims and Objectives
Course aim – To raise awareness about Secondary and
Vicarious trauma and explore the impact upon practitioners and their practices.
Learning Outcomes – By the end of the training webinar practitioners will have a clearer understanding of the following:
• To understand what is meant by secondary and vicarious trauma.
• To be able to Identify the difference between secondary and vicarious trauma.
• To recognise the signs and symptoms of secondary and vicarious trauma.
• To Identify who is more likely to be at risk of secondary or vicarious trauma.
• To gain an understanding of what is meant by defence mechanisms and psychological reactions to secondary trauma stress whilst working with adults and their trauma stories.
• To put into practice an ABC tool kit to build resilience skills.
• To raise awareness of the importance of supervision and debriefing sessions when working with trauma stories.
• To recognise secondary and vicarious trauma as a normal response to working with adults who have experienced trauma.
