Aims and Objectives
This course is solely for transport providers working with RCT Day Services, and is invitation only.
Course aim – Psychologists agree that providing a calm, safe environment and offering gentle, respectful communication are the two factors that have the greatest impact on the wellbeing of people with dementia. This course will provide a basic introduction to the communication and behaviour required when supporting someone with dementia.
Course Objectives - Participants will have had an opportunity to look at:
1. Tom Kitwood’s factors affecting quality of life.
2. The most important skill in dementia care – Learning to see communication and behaviour as an expression of unmet emotional need.
3. Communication - The 4 ‘C’s magic rule.
4. The Day Service Manager’s perspective – how the bus journey at the start of the day affects the rest of the day.
