• Aim

    To develop practitioners’ knowledge and awareness of trauma informed approaches in their direct work with children.


    By the end of the course participants will be able to -

    • Describe what trauma is and what it means to be trauma informed whilst using self-reflection to explore individual strategies for responding to stress
    • Critically reflect on existing practice and explain how trauma impacts upon the development of children’s brains and the adult the child will become using the learnt lessons from serious cases
    • Become familiarised and embed trauma informed care approaches in the way in which we work with children and the services we offer using a child centred approach and valuing empowering relationships 
    • Explore the importance of self-care, the emotional dimension and impact of the child safeguarding work, understand resilience and practice strategies for calming behaviours
