• Aim

    To develop practitioners’ knowledge and awareness of the impact of emotional harm on children and to embed best practice approaches in their direct work with children.


    By the end of the course participants will be able to -

    • Understand the concept of significant harm and be able to identify the signs and symptoms of emotional harm
    • Demonstrate through discussions and practice an advanced understanding of the impact of emotional abuse on children using the learnt lessons from serious cases
    • Practice professional curiosity and constructive challenge as key skills to facilitate respectful, safe and realistic environments in which to engage and communicate with children and parents
    • Understand what leads some families to become resistant and utilise a model of parental capacity and motivation to change to respond effectively to emotional harm
