Assistive Technology and Inclusive Arts

Target Audience: staff working in day services

Course aim – To describe using case studies, photos and videos, the different types and uses of Assistive Technology suitable for individuals with complex disabilities.Describe ways of making the Arts accessible to all, particularly for individuals with complex needs within the current confines of remote working.

Objectives:  By the end of the session, staff will have explored the following topics:

·       Introduction to Forget Me Not: Leaders in Inclusive Arts and Assistive Technology

 ·       Ice-breaker activities

 ·       Overview of Assistive Technology equipment in general, and its’ benefits for independence and life-long learning

 ·       MUSIC-CAN Protocol and case studies

                                            COMFORT BREAK

·       Specific explorations & case studies:

·       Eyegaze

·       Switches

·       Communication aids

·       Mouse alternatives

·       Touch screen technology

·       Independent mobility

·       Environmental control

·      Guest speaker – Bradley Brunt (AAC user on work experience)

          LUNCH (with Hands On opportunity to explore the technology)

·       Inclusive Arts, remote learning and free or low cost technology.

·       Group Activity - Audit – what technology and/or arts-based activities do you currently use? Where could you be using assistive technology and/or inclusive arts practices to nurture independence and life-long learning

·       Case Study Discussion - Thinking about individuals at Day Centre……what would you do?

·       Discussion - Implementation at Day Centre? Is it even possible?
